Now that the cloud is here to stay, most people want to break free from servers in the data room (or under the refrigerator) and aim for a 100% cloud existence.

It's not always easy to soar into the cloud when you have important functionality in existing specialized systems. In this context, specialized systems can be resource planning systems, warehouse systems, time tracking systems, and so on. Several manufacturers of such systems are actively working to prepare their pure cloud versions, but the challenge is that many of the important functions have not yet been able to join this journey. This means that many are heavily dependent on having an associated server that is locally present.

You are provided with cost-saving functionality since in Azure, you can turn off the server when it is not in use, so you only pay for actual consumption.

So when the day comes that your specialized system exists as a full-fledged cloud variant, it is no problem to shut down the old server in Azure without losing investment dollars. It's tedious to pay a fortune for a physical server when it won't be used throughout its lifespan.
